VISIT OF SALT-WORKS of Artemovsk District

1. Country excursion to the town Soledar ( 120 km far away from Donetsk city), visit of salt -beds belonging to a saltfield of Artemovsk' district.

Tourists go underground in the depth 300 m, walk around salt galleries and make the acquiantence with a history of salt getting technology.

Everything here: walls, ceiling, floor, skulptures and trees - is made out of the salt.

They are going along the old sea ground indeed. The salt palm-tree is a

unique symbol of Donbass area, analog of the iron palm-tree of Mertsalov made of a

sleeper. Underground you can also see salt skulptures made by our Ukrainian

craftsmen.

On October 2004 the symphony concert of Donbass orchestra

"Salt Symphony" has been hold in the salt concert hall guided by the Austrian

conductor Mr. Smith Kurt. He was very syprised at the acustics of the salt-works and

told about sounding of the symphony orchestra :

"There are only 2-3 theatres in the world to be competed with Artemovsk salt-works

in acustics. It was terrific!"
